1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Image title

This is a fun, exciting, and free program to help your little one who has not yet started kindergarten, get started on the path to success! The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps children develop pre-reading skills such as understanding the sounds letters make, growing a robust vocabulary, and building background knowledge. These are skills that help prepare children for learning to read and write. This program supports the 5 skills children need to get ready to read: talking, singing, reading, writing, & playing.

The concept is simple; the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your baby, toddler, or preschooler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your little one starts kindergarten.

Every time a child completes 100 books, the library will then give your little one a free book & other prizes!

How To Participate:

Participation in the program is easy. All participants have to do is read with a child and track the titles of the books that have been read. Caregivers can log books read via fcl.beanstack.com (or the Beanstack app).

  • Log-in or sign-up at fcl.beanstack.com and add your child as a reader. They can join the 1000 Books program and log books read to earn badges (see your librarian if you prefer paper logging).
  • Participants will earn a reward from their local branch for every 100 books read.
  • Any child from birth to entering kindergarten may participate.
  • The program is self-paced.
