I. Confidentiality
Arkansas Law (Act 903, 1989) protects the anonymity of the patrons of the library. The Faulkner/Van Buren Regional Library trustees and library staff seek to guard the right to read without fear of censorship or reproach.
In accordance with Arkansas law, circulation records and patron’s application files are confidential regardless of the source of inquiry. Such records shall not be made available to anyone except under court order or other form of due process that has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate county’s legal counsel. Records for accounts that have been inactive for two years, if no longer necessary for the orderly conduct of library business, will be purged.
No messages will be relayed by any media which contains personally identifying characteristics in conjunction with one or more specific library transactions without the written express permission of the patron or, if a minor, by the parent or legal guardian.
Patron records are maintained in a secure environment. Access to this data is restricted by password and other security devices to employees who must use the data in the normal course of conducting library business.
